E-book readers galore

People familiar with the matter have said Apple Inc. is readying a device that may make it easier to read digital books and periodicals, a prospect some publishers are eagerly awaiting.

Rumors add Apple to the lineup of companies—FirstPaper, PlasticLogic, etc—with plans to release an e-book reader competitive with the Kindle. The Kindle does have some real drawbacks when it comes to reading news content, but the most significant one in my mind is that it doesn’t fit in my pocket.

I read most of my news in two mediums: paper (I get two daily) and on my iPhone. Paper because I really like reading on paper, and on my phone because it’s with me at all times. My kindle is almost, but not quite, either of those things.
