MSNBC News Portal cameras will be at The Pitch

by Jason Preston on December 5, 2008

I’ve tried really hard to make sure that this blog doesn’t turn into a shouting post for The Pitch in the week or so leading up to my incredibly awesome and totally relevant Seattle event on the future of publishing and news media. But the good news keeps rolling in, and there’s only so much I can continue to not tell you about.

As you may know, Microsoft’s Windows Media Center group is sponsoring The Pitch that’s happening next Wednesday, Dec 10th, at Lucid in the U-district. If you’re not already on the guest list, put your name down now.

In addition to buying our drinks and showing up to participate, the Windows Media Center group will also be bringing in a camera to put together a news spot about The Pitch for the MSNBC News Portal that lives on everyone’s Vista desktop so that they can throw video of the event up on YouTube and their blogs. [Sorry for the error - I misunderstood what I was told on this front].

I think this is incredibly cool. They’re also looking to do interviews with anyone at The Pitch about the event, their thoughts, and their own news reading or news watching habits.

I understand (believe me, I do) that being on camera is not everyone’s idea of a good time. The Microsoft folks will be bringing release forms, and you will not have to be on camera if you do not want to be. It is totally optional.

While I think this is an awesome opportunity for everyone involved, my primary goal is to make sure that we have a good, comfortable space to have a lively and intelligent discussion. I’m looking forward to seeing you all there.
