Try stealing a page from Seth Godin’s book, and skip your meetings tomorrow.
Seth also advocates skipping TV and movies to answer email, but I think everybody has to stay sane.
How much more work will you get done if you skip your meetings? When business changes as dramatically as it is changing in the news industry, the last thing you want to be doing is business a usual.
Go be productive.

I hate to get all preachy on you, but disagree about the “TV / movies to stay sane” line. I got rid of my TV over a decade ago, I don’t watch movies and wouldn’t dream of going back. Yes, you’ll miss it for a little while, just like you’ll miss your cigarettes and heroin for a while. You’ll get over it, trust me. And you’ll be better for it.

Jordan: – That is awesome. The way I see it, everyone has their vices (=requirements to stay sane). For me, that includes movies
I loathe meetings that are scheduled more than 24 hours in advance, but I rather like ones that have been scheduled to deal with a “live” problem. People come to the freshly scheduled meeting with their minds open, seeking information, and without too many ossified ideas and bland Power Point presentations. Perhaps we should just leave “meeting spaces” in our schedules and fill them if necessary.
