Lynn Kessler, explaining why the 40% “newspaper” tax break does not apply to online news outlets:

“Anybody who’s blogging, God love ‘em, they can say and do whatever they want, because they have no liability or responsibility for what they say, because they are not held to any standard, and they shouldn’t be — they’re just individuals editorializing, if you will.”

This is another symptom of confusing the product with the medium – just because a news org distributes online doesn’t mean they can’t be sued, fined, tracked, or held accountable.

What the government is doing here is creating a financial disincentive to innovate. Stupid.
